Bishop Nathaniel Kendrick Obituary

We gather in the light of the Lord to honor and celebrate the life of Bishop Nathaniel Kendrick, a steadfast servant of God and a cherished pillar of our community. Born in the autumn warmth of October 4, 1937, in the bustling city of Dallas, Texas, Bishop Kendrick was a beacon of hope and faith throughout his blessed 86 years on this earthly plane. It is with a heavy yet grateful heart that we announce his peaceful departure from this world on May 25, 2024, as he was called home by our Heavenly Father in the quiet sanctity of sleep.

Bishop Kendrick's journey began as the beloved son of Rev. Irvin C. Kendrick and Mrs. Carrie Ornie Cole-Kendrick. In the embrace of a nurturing family, he grew up in the familiar streets of Dallas, where he received his education and laid the foundations of his lifelong commitment to service. It was within the community that nurtured him that he would later emerge as a guiding light, working diligently for the City of Dallas until his well-earned retirement.

In his sacred calling, Bishop Kendrick was a devoted Armor Bearer to his bishop, Larry D. McGriff, at the Church of the Living God on Overton Road. His ministry extended beyond the walls of the church, as he also served with a compassionate heart as a chaplain for Dallas's Precinct Number 1 Constable's Office. Through his unwavering faith and tireless work, he touched countless souls, providing comfort and counsel to those in need.

Though he now joins the heavenly choir with his late parents, Rev. Irvin C. Kendrick and Mrs. Carrie Ornie Cole-Kendrick, his brothers Irvin Kendrick, Jr., and Tommie D. Kendrick, his sister Mozell Jones, and his beloved children; Nathan Kendrick and a daughter. Bishop Kendrick's legacy is carried forward by his brothers, Gene Autry Kendrick and Lonnie Kendrick of Dallas, TX, his God Son Pastor John Vaughn of Dallas, his sister Onieda Aimes, and a multitude of relatives, parishioners, and friends whose lives he enriched with his unwavering faith and boundless love.

Bishop Kendrick was a man of God who walked in the footsteps of our Savior, leading by example with humility and grace. His sermons were as much about the Gospel as they were about the daily acts of kindness that define a life well-lived. He taught us the value of community, the importance of family, and the immeasurable power of love. His laughter was a balm to weary souls, and his wise counsel a guiding light through life's storms.

As we bid farewell to this faithful servant, let us remember the warmth of his smile, the strength of his convictions, and the depth of his compassion. Bishop Nathaniel Kendrick has left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will be cherished like the precious psalms of David, and his teachings will continue to inspire generations to come.

In the quiet moments of reflection, let us find solace in the knowledge that Bishop Kendrick is now at peace in the eternal embrace of our Lord. We rejoice in the promise of resurrection, confident that we shall one day be reunited in God's glorious kingdom. Until that day, may we honor his legacy by living our lives with the same courage, dignity, and love that he demonstrated every day of his remarkable life.

Bishop Nathaniel Kendrick, a man of God, a leader of people, and a treasured soul, has completed his earthly mission. We release him with joy into the arms of his Creator, knowing that his spirit will forever be with us, guiding us closer to the divine love he so fervently preached. Rest in peace, good and faithful servant. Your work here is done, but your influence will forever echo in the lives you've touched.
