The Homegoing Celebration for Mrs. Bobby Jean Burns-Gibbs will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2015 at the Rightway Missionary Baptist Church, 2300 Ramona Avenue - Dallas, TX 75216 with Pastor Kevin D. Bush officiant and Pastor Derron H. Robinson eulogist. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery located in Bryan, Texas. Mrs. Gibbs will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time.
A public viewing will be held from 12 Noon until 6:00 p.m. - Friday, August 14, 2015 at Bethesda Memorial Funeral Directors, 106 Terrace Drive - DeSoto, TX. Please uplift the Gibbs family in prayer.
Ms. Bobbie Jean Burns-Gibbs was born on May 5, 1937, in Iola, Texas; to the parentage of Rev Daniel Arthur Gibbs, Sr and Mrs. Viola Annie (Turner) Gibbs. At an early age Bobbie Jean accepted the Lord & Savior Jesus Christ.
Upon moving to Dallas, Bobbie Jean united with Peoples Baptist Church of South Dallas where the late Rev. S. M. Wright served as Pastor. Bobbie was a faithful member of People Baptist Church for 29 years. She later united with the Right Way Missionary Baptist Church of Dallas where Rev. Kevin D. Bush serves as pastor. During her church tenure in Dallas, Bobbie Jean faithfully served in church as a Sunday school teacher, vacation bible school teacher, mission deaconette and bus monitor. Bobbie remained a faithful and active member, until she moved to Hearne, TX.
Upon moving to Hearne, she joined the New Elam Missionary Baptist Church where Rev. Derron H. Robinson serves as pastor. Bobbie Jean remained a faithful and active member of New Elam, until her health and strength began to diminish.
Ms. Bobbie Jean Gibbs received most of her formal education in the Dallas Public Schools where she earned a GED and later an Associate degree from El Centro Community College, Dallas, Texas.
Bobby Jean was employed with DISD for over 21 years. While at DISD, Ms. Gibbs held a number of different positions (cashier, custodial services and lastly a teacher aid). In 1999, Ms. Gibbs honorably retired from employment at DISD to enjoy & spend quality time with her family.
Preceding her in death were parents; Rev. Daniel Arthur Gibbs, Sr. and Mrs. Viola Annie Turner-Gibbs; one brother, Alfred Stephenson Gibbs; six sisters, Annie Kelly, Edna Williams, Christine Parnell, Hettie Hawthorne, Elizabeth Blanton, and Lois Dykes Moody.
Ms. Bobbie Jean Burns-Gibbs leaves to cherish her memory; one son, Carl Otis Lockhart Gibbs of Hearne, Texas; Grand Daughters Tracey Gibbs of Denver, CO, Niya Ray (Chauncey) of Dallas, TX and Lakenta Pun of Dallas, TX; grandsons; Danielle Wright and Michael Henderson both of Dallas, TX, and a host of other relatives and friends. Ms. Bobbie Jean Burns-Gibbs will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
