With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Dr. Clarence Wallace “C.W.” Burruss, Sr., affectionately known as “Sonny,” on Sunday, March 9, 2025. Born on April 23, 1950, in Huntsville, Alabama, to the late William Erskin and Emma Mae Riddle-Burruss, he lived a life dedicated to faith, family, service, and leadership.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, C.W. served two combat tours in Vietnam, retiring after more than 20 years of honorable service. He was a man of deep faith, an influential preacher, and a lifelong learner, earning multiple degrees, including a Master’s in Human Relations/Business and an Honorary Doctorate in Humanities.
Following his military career, C.W. became a respected law enforcement leader, serving as Director of Safety & Security for Dallas ISD and the first Chief of Police for Cedar Hill ISD, where he mentored and shaped the careers of many in the profession. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to own Shunte’s Kollege Korner, Tri-City Embroidery, and Bethesda Memorial Funeral Directors & Crematory Services, LLC, which he co-founded with his beloved wife, Patricia Willis-Burruss.
A proud Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. member and Prince Hall Mason, C.W. lived by the principle that “a good name is more desirable than great riches” (Proverbs 22:1), leaving behind a legacy of integrity, wisdom, and service.
He is survived by his devoted wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, and a host of family, friends, fraternity brothers, and colleagues who will cherish his memory.
Please keep the Burruss family in your prayers during this time.
