James Davis Obituary

On behalf of the Owner, Management and Staff of Bethesda Memorial Funeral Directors,  it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Mr. James Davis, a military veteran and awardee of the Purple Heart for injuries he received in combat.

James Edward Davis was born on November 3,1946, to the union of Doris Pryor and Euril Lee Davis. James grew up on a farm in Longview (Carthage), Texas. He completed his formal education in the Longview (Carthage) communities. Shortly after finishing high school,  James was drafted into the US Marine Corps where he faithfully served our country for six years (two years active duty, and four years of inactive duty in the Marine Corps Reserves).

After completing Marine boot and advance training, James was sent to Vietnam. In Vietnam James was injured in combat. As a result, he was awarded the  Marine’s prestigious “Purple Heart” medal. After honorably service, he was discharged from active duty at. the rank of Corporal. After the military, James obtained employment with the US Postal Service in Dallas.  He maintained employment as a dedicated postal worker, until his retirement with over 25 years of faithful government service.

James was a fun loving, witty, sharp-minded, military oriented gentleman. He was a very proud man and had much pride in his family, as well as his personal achievements. He was funny, straight forward, and very honest, with much integrity. James loved golf, and was a member of the Dallas (Oak Cliff) Cedar Crest Golf Course Club. As an avid golfer, he won numerous tournaments and was awarded several prestigious trophies. James also had a fond passion for good music. He was a naturally built stout and muscular man, who during his younger years, loved working out and being physically fit.

He was preceded in death by both parents, sister Dorothy and wife Cynthia Davis. James leaves to cherish precious and profound memories to his daughters: Malakia Davis, Matina Davis (David), Basheba Norton (Drexel), Monique “Nikki” Williams, Mayou Williams-Honore (Thaddeus) and Mashell Davis. Grandchildren: Markus Williams, Mackenzye Abney, Meagan Abney, Thaddeus Honore Jr. and three others from “Nikki” along with a host of other relatives and friends. He will certainly be missed by all who knew him.

May God bless, and in his infinite manifold wisdom, gives the Davis family peace that passes and exceeds all understanding.  Services are pending and will be announced soon. Please join us in lifting this family in prayer.
