God has bestowed upon each of us a gift of talent. On November 20th, 1952 a child was born to the parentage of Joyce Lee Johnson Spigner (J.L.) and Mary Lee Titus Johnson in Ft.worth, Texas in the name of Kenneth LaWayne Spigner, known as Kenny, and their third child. Not knowing at the time that he would be given the gift of song by God. If anyone had an opportunity to hear Kenny sing they would have thought that they were in a room full of angels. His voice made you stop wherever you were to become mesmerized by his gift of song. You could listen for hours to this song bird that only God could have created along with his skills of song writing.
Kenny received Christ early in life as a member of Greater St. Mary Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. Charlie Williams. Upon moving to Las, Vegas, Nevada later in life he united with the Greater New Jerusalem Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop James M. Rodgers. He was one of the song birds in the choir in which he was one the lead singers of many songs.
Even as a young man Kenny had what we called a giving heart. He would willingly help anyone that needed a helping hand. I guess he got this from his dad "J.L." and mother Mary Lee. People with good hearts are hard to find. Kenny possessed one of the best that God had to give. Early in life Kenny attended elementary and middle school in Tyler, Texas. Those schools were St. Louis Elementary school and Hubbard Middle School. He later moved to Dallas Texas and graduated from James Madison High School in 1971.
Kenny received an AA degree form Tyler Jr. College in Cad drafting. He also received many honors in college which included being on the Dean's list. Later on he graduated from the Art Institute for Drafting in Las Vegas, Nevada. Although, he was a resident of Las Vegas for over 33 years he always felt that Texas was his home. Kenny loved his family and friends dearly and would often journey back and forth to Texas to visit them.
Being very talented he worked many different jobs. His industrial history ranged form being in the kitchen cooking his favorite delights, to District Maintenance Supervisor for Clark County School District where he retired and a contract drafter. His greatest job of all was to lighten any gloomed filled room from churches to doorways among family and friends, to vast stages all over Las Vegas. He was an entertainer! Kenny never missed an opportunity to showcase his vocal skills especially beside his brothers. These are the memories that we cherish.
Kenneth was preceded in death by both his mother and father, grandparents Lula Mae Goss and Albert Titus, Sr; Lucille Spigner and Albert Calvin Spigner, Ella Beatrice Johnson and John Johnson. His life will be missed and cherished by his children: Kenneth L. Spigner, Jr. of Las Vegas, Nevada, Cynthia A. Spigner, Jeremiah R. Spigner, and Jessica C. Spigner all of Tyler, Texas. One grandchild, Camryn A. Spigner-Nelson of Tyler, Texas. He leaves to celebrate his homegoing , Stepmother; Pauline Spigner of Dallas, Texas, four siblings; Joris L. Spigner and John C. Spigner of Tyler, Texas. Theta Michelle Moore (Ross Earl) of Dallas, Texas, and Michael S. Spigner (Lorna) of Las Vegas, Nevada. One special Uncle who was like a Father, Eddie Lee Titus of Wilmer Hutchins, Texas. A host of nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and other relatives and friends.
