On August 11, 2021, while in DeSoto, Ms. Margaret McKinney while at her place of resident, quietly and peacefully slipped away to be with the Lord.
Margaret was born to her loving parents, Roy Martin and Rachel McNary (Warfield) on February 19, 1931, in Madisonville, Kentucky. Her early years were spent in Madisonville with her parents, along with her sisters; McHelen, Dorothy, Beatrice, Lacy, Barbara; and brother; Roy, Jr. She attended Rosenwald High School, where she graduated in 1948. Shortly after graduating, she moved to Dallas and began working as a housekeeper. Margaret was loved and cherished by her employers, and they considered her part of their family. A few years later, Margaret met her husband, Billy Joe and they decided to make Dallas their home.
Over the next 50 years, she lived a life dedicated to serving others within her local community. Margaret volunteered at various nursing homes, bringing smiles and joy to those who needed it most. The residents loved to hear her sweet voice sing songs of encouragement and recite beautiful poems. She was truly a ray of sunshine to everyone she encountered.
Margaret also expressed her love for those around her by cooking and sharing her meals with neighbors and friends. She was a member of Concord Missionary Baptist Church, where she dedicated a great amount of her time to serving God’s people.
Margaret lived a long, productive and wonderful life; dedicated to God, servant leadership, loving her family and cherishing her many friendships. She will be dearly missed.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; Roy Martin, and Rachel McNary (Warfield), husband; Billy Joe, sisters; are McHelen, Dorothy, Beatrice, Lacy Barbara, and Susie, and brother; Roy, Jr.
To cherish her memory, she leaves her son; Eric Sowels, adopted daughter; Tosha Hardman, two special grandchildren; Eric and Lundun, along with a plethora of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Celebration of Life Service for Ms. Margaret F. McKinney, is 12:00 Noon, Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Bethesda Memorial Funeral Directors and Crematory Services, LLC (106 Terrace Drive - DeSoto, TX 75115). Pastor James Hardman, II, Officiant.
