On September 2, 2017 at Faith Presbyterian Hospice Center – Dallas, Texas, Ms. Rachel La’Stelle Humphrey, age 53 of Duncanville, Texas peacefully slipped away to be with the Lord.
Rachel was born on September 6, 1963 in Odessa, Texas to the parentage Luther Humphrey and Marie Thomas-Humphrey. She completed her formal education in Odessa Public School graduating in May 1982 from Ector High School. Shortly after graduation, Rachel enrolled in and attended Texas Tech University, where she pledged and became a member of the illustrious Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Rachel gave birth to and enjoyed raising three children (two daughters and a son). After leaving college, she accepted employment as a customer service supervisor at ComData. Rachel also worked for other DFW area transportation companies, until health issues prevented her from working fulltime.
She accepted Christ at an early age and served as the Young People Division Director and a lifelong member of the African Methodist Episcopal church. Rachel honorably served as the 1st Grand Worthy Matron of the FAAYM Dorcas Grand Chapter - Order of the Eastern Star state of Texas. She served as Queen of the South, Heroine of Jericho, Crusader, Amaranth, and Daughters of Isis. As a member of these masonic associated organization, her earthly crown was jeweled.
Rachel was preceded in death by her father Luther Humphrey. She leaves to mourn and cherish sweet memories her Mother; Marie Thomas Humphrey, Children; Jamille (Brandon) Hall, Tarnisha Willard, and Royal (Niketa) Willard, Siblings; Alma (Edward) Calloway, Glenda (Jerry ) Calloway, Aubrey Humphrey, Teresa (Sandy) Sampson, Gavin Humphrey, and Francys Gabrielle Humphrey, Grandchildren; Ariyana Aldridge, LaVontae Aldridge, Jurnee Combs, Aniya Willard, Taleahia Willard, Tyler Moorer, Royal Willard Jr., and Aaliyah Hall, her close Aunts; Celestine Wallace and Christine Booker; Nieces (whom she helped raise); Chamira Humphrey and Brishawn Burley, close Cousins; Merlene and Cheryl Wallace, Best friends (whom she referred to as sisters); Sondra Hooks-Smith, Lisa Walker, and Carmen Jones, God-children; Marques Neal, Valencia (Bunny) West, Broderick Jones, Ruby Coleman, Apollo Booker, Brierra Parker, and Cedric Woods, along with a plethora of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Rachel will certainly be missed by all who knew her.
Services for Rachel are entrusted into the loving care of Bethesda Memorial Funeral Directors - DeSoto, Texas.
