Mrs.Vernice Barnes-Brooks was born January 1, 1934 in Falls County Texas. She departed this life on Sunday, January 5, 2014 at Parkview Hospital (Mexia, TX). Mrs. Brooks was the eighteenth of nineteen children, born to Louis and Marie McWilliams-Barnes. Her husband Willie J. Brooks, Step-Son; James Brooks, both parents and seventeen brothers & sisters all proceeded Vernice in death. Mrs. Brooks received her formal education in the Kosse and also in the Groesbeck school systems. Vernice joined church at an early age and devoting her life to serving Christ Jesus and raising her children according to the scriptures. Mrs. Brooks was a devoted member and usher at the New Light Missionary Baptist Church, Wiley Chapel Missionary Church (both in Dallas, TX), and also an usher at the Greater Antioch Baptist Church of Stranger, TX. At the time of her death Mrs. Brooks was a member of New Home Baptist Church which is located in Mexia, TX where Rev. L. Brown serves as the pastor.
Mrs. Brooks leaves to mourn ten children (seven boys and three girls) and their spouses. Those left to cherish her memory are step-daughter Doris (Kenny) Pearson of Lancaster, TX; Dennis (Nancy) Brooks of DeSoto, TX; Alfred (Beverly) Brooks of Dallas, TX; Patricia Christopher of Dallas, TX; Michael (Monica) Brooks of Wadesboro, NC; Marion Ford of Mexia, TX; Tracy (Laneshia) Brooks of Lancaster, TX; Keith (Karen) Brooks of Wilmer, TX; Bobby (Conswella) Brooks of Mesquite, TX; Stephan Brooks of Garland, TX; twenty-seven grandchildren, thirty-four great-grand children, four great-great grand children; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and an abundance of friends.
